Dance and Mental Health: During this class we discussed integrating aspects of mental health within a dance sequence. The main focus of this dance class was resilience, and interacting with peers in a positive way. The other focus this class was The warm up used in this class was a Karate movement activity, where we got into groups of three and had to come up with three movements and one sound effect. This activity was designed to be an icebreaker, to loosen everyone up preparing us for dance class. Week 4: Dance and Social Studies:  This week in Dance class, we explored various cultures and how to move according to the temp of their traditional songs. We explored African, Swedish, and Russian traditional music, in order to explore their cultural dance forms. One of the songs that really resonated with myself was the Russian troika, having a very fast tempo which required very quick movements in order to keep up. The element of Dance that was explored during this class was time (how fast or slow something is going). The movements within the dance all reflect these three elements of time, moving fast or slow or sustained movements with a heavy or light emphasis.   Elements of Time: Tempo Rhythm  Duration   The main activity within this class was watching "A Story Before Time", which originally made me think about A Land Before Time. This dance was very eccentric, and truly reflected Aboriginal dance, combined with North American dance, being an in...

Dance and Mathematics:  This week, within dance class we explored concepts like symmetry, and mirroring. Each time these concepts were mentioned, I needed to think what the differences between the two were, and then apply them to a dance piece. Definitions: Symmetry: Equality in size, shape, and/or position between parts or elements or objects. Mirroring: A reflection of the image in front Symmetry: Retrieved from: https://s3.amazonaws.com/nysci-noticing-assets-staging/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/CG2.4.png Mirroring: Retrieved from: http://www.4dancers.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/HSD121205_CC0553.jpg The activity that we did within class was mirroring your partner, in every movement that they did, while facing each other. I found it extremely difficult to mirror my partner, because it was the exact opposite movement when I was facing them. This activity was a very useful lesson as a teacher, because it incorporated a lot of the different dance element...

As a group we explored the different terminology within the dance curriculum, and how they related to each person's dance piece  The dance strategy/ technique that we explored within this class was (ABACADA) which was what my group presented to the class for our presentation. The science application that my group chose to explore was space, having a movement that was always present (the moon surrounding around the Earth). Week 1 - Integrated Education: Language Arts  Coming into Dance class, for the first time, I definitely had some fear/ anxiety associated with the fact that  it was (Dance Class).  Once in class, I quickly relaxed and got over this anxiety very quickly. In the past I have taken 1 course in Dance in University, where we went over the exploration of movement (locomotion); jump, walk, run, leap, gallop hop, skip, slide, and roll. We also talked about the different levels these movements can take place (high, medium, low). We went over the syllables used within our name, and exploring them physically. This was a great way to get the students off their feet, and a great ice breaker for a first class. We explored the various Elements of Dance: Bo...
